Horizon

The season of Advent
means there is something on the horizon
the likes of which we have never seen before.
It is not possible to keep it from coming,
because it will.
That's just how Advent works.
What is possible is to not see it,
to miss it,
to turn just as it brushes past you.
And you begin to grasp
what it was you missed,
like Moses in the cleft of the rock,
watching God's back fade in the distance.

So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder.
Wait. Behold. Wonder.
There will be time enough for running.
For rushing. For worrying. For pushing.
For now, stay.
Wait.
Something is on the horizon.

Patterns

Forgive us, God,
when we live our lives within the lines,
when we say
this is the shape of our work,
this is the boundary of our habitation,
these are the limits to our love,
these are the lines of our vision,
these, and none other.

Draw us beyond our patterns into yours;
shifting, moving,
curving, spiraling,
many-colored, ever-changing,
stretching, pushing,
challenging, renaming,
unsettling, disturbing,
casting forth,
and welcoming home.

Bless the Hands
Bless the hands
smooth , supple
that create with power;
rough, weathered
that touch with integrity;
scarred, bent
that move with grace;
dark, pale
that work for justice.

Bless the hands
shackled, free
that point toward peace;
graceful, longing
that tend the weary;
young, old
that feed the children;
yours, mine
that move the world.

Please enjoy the Advent Tea that follows the worship service today.

Childcare during worship is available, for infants in the nursery (on the right side of the hallway going back to Jubilee Hall) and for toddlers in the MYF room (on the far side of Jubilee Hall).

You are invited to stay for the Nurture Hour that begins after the Advent Tea. The back of this bulletin lists available classes.

If you are visiting today, please pick up a copy of our newsletter
on the literature rack in the fellowship hall.

Nurture Hour

Adult classes at BAMF are mostly intergenerational, and you are welcome to participate in any of them:
¨         BASIC The Basic class is discussing and responding to sermons during December and is led by Jud Gingrich.
¨         College Age/Young Adults This class meets in the library for wide-ranging discussion. Dan Nafziger offers leadership.
¨         Ambassadors and Open Circle Dan Schrock teaches a study of The Letter to the Philippians; the class meets in the northeast corner of the meetingroom.
¨         SALT Bryan Kehr teaches a study of Hebrews; the class meets in the northwest corner of the meetingroom.
¨         Web-site Development This group meets in the church office and keeps our congregational website up-to-date and growing.

Children from kindergarten through fifth grade gather after worship for singing in ``Jubilee Hall'' (the large room north of the fellowship hall). They are then dismissed to their classes in the rooms around Jubilee Hall. Younger children may go directly to their classrooms.
¨         Infants and toddlers meet in ``Cherub Corner.''
¨         There are two classes of 3- and 4-year-olds meeting in the rooms ``Joyful'' and ``Gentleness.'' Teachers can help you find the right place for your child.
¨         Children in kindergarten through second grade will meet in ``Forgiveness.''
¨         Girls in third through fifth grade will meet in ``Kindness.''
¨         Boys in third through fifth grade will meet in ``Peace.''

Youth classes:
¨         The Jr. Youth (grades 6-8) and the MYF (grades 9-12) meet in their classrooms off of Jubilee Hall.
